How to Lose Abdominal Fat

Losing abdominal fat seems to be of importance especially when the holiday season comes closer and we are planning to spend some time on the beach. One thought about our bikini and how attractive we might look, and there we are, starting to search for the best way to lose belly fat!

Abdominal weight loss myth

We first have to clarify some myths about getting a slim midsection. The biggest myth is special exercise that is supposed to reduce your belly, like abdominal crunches etc. Many people have put in much effort and done these exercises religiously only to get frustrated with the lack of the desired results! Maybe you also have been one of them? Fitness and weight loss experts know that you simply can not spot reduce fat with exercises!

Exercise builds muscles!

What exercise does, depends on the type of exercise. Low intensity cardio, where you stay in the aerobic range, is a good fat loss exercise. But it reduces the fat allover the body. High intensity interval training (HIIT) can achieve the same results with a shorter training time (e.g. 20 mins interval training might burn the same calories as 40 min cardio).

Strength training builds muscles depending on what muscle groups you worked on. So what happens when you do hundreds of abdominal crunches or other abdominal exercises? These exercises build muscles! BUT – underneath your abdominal fat layer! And nobody will see these nice muscles!

Nutrition is the key

The best way to lose abdominal fat is to reduce the body fat with diet! Nutrition is the key component here. You have to create a calorie deficit to achieve this. The easiest way to do this is to cut out all sugars and simple carbohydrates and also to reduce complex carbohydrates while eating more protein, which will keep you feeling full. This is how the leanest people get their results – bodybuilders! Generally, they never were my role model (to many muscles for my taste), but when you think about it, they are lean!

Although nutrition is crucial for reducing fat in your body, one also has to make mention of the fact that dieting (eating less calories than you burn) leads to an overall fat loss in the whole body. There is unfortunately no way to only lose abdominal weight. No magic pill and no super food can achieve this! Even worse, the abdominal fat is usually the last one to come off! But maybe that’s why we consider somebody being in perfect shape only when their midsection is slim. Your belly shows if you have made it or if there is still fat left that needs to be covered up!

Conclusions

To lose abdominal weight successfully you need to focus on general nutritionally based fat loss strategies. And if you want ripped abs, you first have to get rid of your belly fat layer, only then building your abdominal muscles with specific exercises makes sense and the acquired muscle mass can be seen. But then you really can show off on the beach!

How to use vitamin supplements for weight loss

Weight loss is basically a function of eating less calories than you burn and so far there seems to be no magic pill that makes the pounds fall off while you can continue to eat as usual having chocolate cake, potato chips, french fries or sweets on a regular basis.

Use vitamins to burn more calories

Although you can’t go against that universal law (eating less than your burn = weight loss), there is on the other side no reason why you then shouldn’t use it to support your weight loss. Although there might be no pill that miraculously burns huge amounts of fat for you, there are supplements that give your metabolism a boost so that you will burn more calories. Why not use those?

Ensure your thyroid is working properly

Certain vitamins, especially of the vitamin B group, are essential for proper functioning of the thyroid gland. And the thyroid gland controls your metabolism! So when going on diet it is important to support your body with the necessary vitamins to ensure a well functioning metabolism that rather burns the fat than keeps storing it in parts of your body that you want to slim down.

Vitamin B12, the “energy vitamin”

Vitamin B12 deserves special attention in connection with weight loss. It is also known as the “energy vitamin” and said to speed up the metabolism in general and to help carbohydrate metabolism burning the carbohydrates opposed to converting them into fat. But not only that, as most people are deficient in vitamin B12, you will feel an energy surge when levels are getting back to normal. You will finally be able to exercise again and not feeling that tired and exhausted any more. It increases your overall energy consumption by enabling you to a lead a more active lifestyle with physical activities. However, vitamin B12 is sometimes not so well absorbed if taken orally. B12 shots seem to be most effective in that case.

Top up with a good multivitamin supplement

Of course you should also consider other vitamin supplementation when being on diet, like a good multivitamin preparation including the most essential minerals. That way you will get all the vital nutrients while you are eating less food than usual. Optimally, you can cover your vitamin needs by eating lots of organic high quality food. If that is not possible, dietary supplements are essential!

Using Lemons as a Cleanser to Lose Weight

Here’s another great post from Cladia at dietonautopilot.com. She brings up a good point – sometimes dietary aids and supplements are great, but we often forget to use the everyday tools that our ancestors have been using for centuries. Today, we’ll talk about how lemons can be a greate cleansing aid in your diet!

Lemons have been part of diets, and especially detox diets, since centuries. They are well known for their cleansing properties, which are mostly attributed to their property to help the body to establish an alkaline environment. Although lemons itself, and lemon juice, are acidic, they act when metabolized as an alkalizing food for your body’s pH.

This is important because most foods we consume lead to a higher acidity level, and also preservatives, food additives and heavy metals give the body a hard time to function properly. The acidity stays in your body as long as there are no corresponding alkalizing agents that they are able to combine with. Once neutralized, they can be eliminated from the body. And that’s where the lemons come in.

Not only that it has obvious health benefits to get all the junk out of you, but also a cleansing diet using lemons will help you to lose weight very quickly! Most of the impurities are stored in fat cells, which also store a lot of water to balance the poisonous effect of the junk. Once the lemons provide an alkaline environment the body is able to get rid of these impurities and the associated water which is followed by weight loss.

The above cleansing effect is used in the Master Cleanse Diet, where all your nutrition is provided by lemons, water and a bit of maple syrup. The enormous weight loss that can be achieved with this diet is also due to the very low calorie consumption during this 10 day period and also because your colon gets cleaned out by salt water flushes. However, this diet is not so easy to hang on to, and remember, not all the weight loss equals fat loss, meaning only a part of that is permanent weight loss.

Now, in case you are still wondering if lemons help you losing weight: They do, but the weight loss due to their detox properties works much slower if you don’t do the Master Cleanse Diet. You will then have to stick to several glasses of diluted lemon juice for several weeks to see some results. This is nevertheless beneficial as it is easier to do and a slower weight loss will give you more permanent results.

In case you don’t really like the taste of lemon juice, there are plenty of other possibilities to lose weight. Generally you don’t even need to go onto a specific diet. Just cutting out your worst food choice replacing them with something healthier, and avoiding snacks may actually be enough to correct your weight. Even with tiny steps done consistently you will get results, not as fast as with the Master Cleanse, but it is a lot less painful!

Avoid These 5 Diet Mistakes

Avoid These 5 Diet Mistakes / 5 Things That Can Mess up Your Diet

When people go on a diet, they want to lose fat fast! What has accumulated over months and years has to be gone within 14 days or a month latest. Often they forget some basics on how to really get rid of the pounds and wonder afterwards why they did not achieve their weight loss goals. Although this is all common knowledge, watch out not to fall into these diet traps:

1. Don’t starve yourself!
Once you have decided to finally go on diet, some people overdue it thinking fast weight loss success would come with eating as less as then can, meaning less than 1,500 calories for men or less than 1,200 calories for woman. After a few days your body will be sent into starvation mode slowing down your metabolism and weight loss considerably. You can, however, be on a very low calorie diet for a few days and then eat almost at maintenance level for another few days and so on. For some people this is easier to do as so to speak „cheat days“ are allowed.

2. Use fat in moderation, even healthy fat!
Nowadays we have all learned that there are healthy choices of fat, like olive oil, which seems to be a main contributing factor in popular and healthy Mediterranean food. This does not mean that you can use these fats generously only because they are healthy. They are still fats! And especially in combination with simple carbohydrates they go straight into your fat storage facilities that you are actually trying to reduce!

3. Sugar is hiding in low-fat foods!
Obviously you are cutting out sweets and cakes etc. from your diet when being on a weight loss scheme. This is a good start and sometimes hard enough to do. Just be aware of the many hidden sugars that contribute to your total sugar intake. They hide primarily in convenience food and in all packaged „low fat“ foods. So if you think you are doing all the right things, read the labels! Anyway, diet wise the best foods are always those that don’t come with labels (fruit, vegetables).

4. Alcohol …
Having alcohol during your diet does not only contribute calorie wise and provides simple sugars that you are trying to avoid while being on diet, it also slows down your metabolism. Apart from following healthy eating habits, models for example, often drink little or no alcohol to keep their figures slim (although those who do might make it more often into the news!). In men alcohol also decreases testosterone levels inhibiting muscle growth and facilitating fat storage.

5. Drink your water!
You have heard it more than once, but do you really have your eight glasses of water? By the way, coffee, tea, fruit juices or even sodas don’t count. You need pure filtered water to flush out all the toxins that get released when breaking down fat cells. If the toxin levels get too high, your body will protect you from being poisoned by stopping to use your stored fat as energy source. You will reach a plateau soon and there your fat loss goes!
