Vitamin Water – You’re a Friggin’ Liar!!

Vitamin Water sucks

So, since I’ve been losing weight I’ve been trying to drink less diet pop. That means for me, a lot of water, sugar free kool-aid, sugar free lemonaid – and lately I’ve been trying to buy “Vitamin Water” for something new and an alternative to soda.

One day I was in the carry-out and I saw this Vitamin Water, and I read the label. 50 calories and 13 grams of sugar. I drank it and life was good. The next day I tried another flavor. For 3-4 days I had a Vitamin Water and a banana. I figured this was much better than the diet pepsi and hot dog I used to occasionally get.

We saw a report awhile back on TV that said all the water and fruit drinks that were now the rage at the gym actually hurt you because they had a few hundred calories, and pretty much defeated the purpose of working out in the first place – because you’d have to exercise a couple hours to burn the calories from that water off. Talk about canceling out your own workout!

So when I was in the store I naturally checked the label to make sure Vitamin Water wasn’t like those other evil waters and fruity drinks. Like I said, 50 calories and 13 grams of sugar. Then….today I came home with Vitamin Water in my hand – and my wife grabbed it. She said “this has 125 calories and 32 grams of sugar!“.

My jaw dropped….whaaaat?!? Yeah, it says that this (20 oz bottle) is 2.5 SERVINGS! So, when you buy a 20 oz pop, that’s ONE serving, but if you get a 20 oz Vitamin water, all the sudden (it’s so filling) that it’s 2.5 servings?!? Talk about label manipulation to get people to buy something AND make them feel good about i!

Screw you Vitamin Water – you lied to me, and I will never buy you again! You may as well have been selling me a fake Rolex on the street corner!!

Why not just drink water? I really hate the way that food and nutrition is marketed in the states. Just the words “vitamin water” tell me to stay away. Vitamins come in food. Fruit. Vegetables. Water comes in water. Stick to nature and let the uneducated get their nutrition through marketing.

Sorry if I sound negative and bitchy. But don’t let advertisements tell you how to eat. Take some advice from the Allman brothers and eat a peach. Then drink some water. You’ll never crave this bottled nonsense again. :)

Why don’t you try Propel Fit Water? I was sent some samples of it a while back, and did a review of it on my blog. It really tastes great and is way lower in calories that Vitamin Water. I think it’s like 25 calories per bottle.

haha what’s wrong with just plain water? Anything that tastes like anything is gonna have calories, and the stuff that doesn’t will be laced with Aspartame which could cause cancer

8oz is a serving of soda, not 20oz. the 20oz bottles have the same 2.5 serving notations and signifcantly more than 125 calories per bottle. one 8oz. serving of coke, for example, is 140 calories. so if you drink 20oz. you’re looking at over 280 calories and zero vitamins. vitaminwater is really more of a middle-ground.

  5. Stick with water! Most of the drinks out there are not even close to “good for you”…

I am wondering to now that and why someone needs those? I think pure water has no alternatives and it is just something silly.

I have a juicer and make my own juices to carry around. Except for water, most drinks that are prepackaged are just junk.

  8. Yes–a lot of “sports drinks” are loaded down with sugar.

By the way, sugar is not so back immediately following a weight training session–it helps restore glycogen in the muscles. But drinking these things throughout the day isn’t good for weight loss.
